Our DNA
Mountain Adventure Culture
For over two centuries, Chamonix has been the world capital of mountaineering, its name resonating in the hearts of all mountain enthusiasts.
This founding principle led to the creation of the Chamonix Film Festival. More than just a film festival, we envisioned this event as a grand celebration of the mountains, adventure and mountain culture. Because mountaineering was born in Chamonix, our ambition is to pass on a heritage that dates back two centuries and to reflect the current state of a rapidly changing mountain world.
Mountaineering and, more broadly, mountain adventure are not ordinary activities; mountain peaks are not simply playgrounds, but challenging terrains. Since the end of 2019, mountaineering has been recognised as part of UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage. This tremendous recognition commits us to working to pass on the history and culture of the mountains, raise awareness of environmental issues, respect for the environment and the safety of practitioners.
This is also why, over the past two years, we have developed various initiatives to promote social inclusion through the mountains. In particular, we have created the Social and Solidarity Mountain Day, which brings together associations involved in this inclusion.
The festival team
The founders
This festival was born from a dream shared by a father and daughter, Christophe and Morgane Raylat.
Two mountain enthusiasts living at the foot of Mont Blanc decided to create a festival to pay tribute to the mountains and the spirit of adventure.
Today, the festival is organised by a non-profit cultural association. It is structured around an organising committee and a film selection committee.
The organising committee
The festival team is organised around an organising and advisory committee, made up of mountain and culture enthusiasts.
