2025 edition
ARTICLE 1 – Organisation
The Chamonix Film Festival Organisation association is organising the Chamonix Film Festival from 11 to 16 June 2024 (4th edition) in Chamonix. This is a competition.
The competition is open to professional and amateur filmmakers.
ARTICLE 2 – Film themes
- The selected films will focus on the following themes: mountaineering, climbing, adventure and exploration in the mountains. They must convey the cultural heritage of the mountains and the human values associated with mountaineering (commitment, solidarity, respect for the environment).
- Films must have a maximum duration of 90 minutes.
ARTICLE 3 – Registration
Registrations for pre-selection and viewing links must be sent before 1 April 2024.
Registration for a film is free and can be done:
- Online on the festival website: www.chamonixfilmfestival.fr under the heading ‘Register your film’.

Authors, producers or directors may submit several films to the selection committee, but only one may be selected for the final selection.
The items sent will be kept by the festival for its archives.
The completed registration form, regardless of the method of registration chosen, constitutes a commitment and implies acceptance of these rules in their entirety.
ARTICLE 4 – Selection
The organising committee, whose list is available on the website www.chamonixfilmfestival.fr, will select the films eligible for the competition.
The admission or non-admission of works to the competition is at the sole discretion of the organising committee.
The festival organisers will notify the film representatives of their selection or non-selection and, where applicable, will organise their attendance at the festival.
ARTICLE 5 – Items to be provided
Upon receipt of the official selection confirmation email, the representatives of the selected films must send the following items as soon as possible:
- For screening, a master copy of the film in a professional broadcast format, preferably suitable for cinema projection (DCP).
- The film trailer in HD digital file format.
- 10 high-definition digital photos (minimum 300 dpi) free of copyright for the promotion of the Festival*
- A web link to the trailer for integration on the website:
- www.chamonixfilmfestival.fr (Vimeo, YouTube, Dailymotion, etc.)
- A ten-line summary in French and English for the programmes and website.
*These documents may be used royalty-free for the promotion and communication of the Festival only. As part of the promotion of the Festival and the films presented during the event, the Festival organising committee may take any decisions it deems necessary. However, they may not present excerpts longer than 1 minute to television channels. Any more specific requests will be subject to agreement with the producers.
ARTICLE 6 – Films subtitled in French and English
The Chamonix Film Festival is aimed at a French-speaking and English-speaking audience. A space will be provided for English-language screenings. All films must therefore have a French version and an English version, regardless of the film’s country of origin.
Any translations will be at the expense of the producers, unless otherwise agreed with the Festival.
ARTICLE 7 – Screening rights
The Chamonix Film Festival will pay the producers of the selected films screening rights proportional to the length of the film.
- Less than 10 minutes: £100
- 10 to 30 minutes: £150
- More than 30 minutes: £300
ARTICLE 8 – Shipping costs
Registration for the Festival is free of charge, but any costs incurred in sending documents or masters shall be borne by the participants.
ARTICLE 9 – Competitions
The Festival jury is composed of a president and four members appointed for each edition by the organisation. The jurors are personalities from the world of mountaineering and/or the audiovisual world.
The jury will award four prizes:
- The Chamonix Film Festival Grand Prix
- The Jury Prize
- The Narration Prize
- The ‘By Fair Means’ Prize
A fifth prize:
- The Audience Award
This will be awarded by the audience following a vote counted at the end of each screening.
ARTICLE 10 – Obligations
The winning directors undertake to mention the prize in the credits of their film as well as on the poster and/or official visuals and media.
ARTICLE 11 – Media and Communication
The rights holders grant the Festival, without any compensation, the right to reproduce photos or excerpts from the film for the production of the Festival’s promotional teaser and for distribution in its publications, promotional venues, website and on various social networks.
ARTICLE 12 – Free of charge and coverage
The Festival shall cover the accommodation, meals and, if necessary, ski lift passes for guests (directors, producers or main protagonists), up to one guest per film. With regard to travel expenses, each case will be examined and transport assistance may be granted by the organising committee.
ARTICLE 13 – Representation
The directors or protagonists of the film undertake, within the framework provided by the organising committee, to present their films at public screenings, to ensure their presentation and to close the session by attending the debate and the announcement of the winners.
ARTICLE 14 – Programming
The day and time of the films selected for competition and out of competition will be determined according to a programming schedule established by the Festival’s organising committee, based on organisational requirements and the availability of the various contributors to the selected films.
ARTICLE 15 – Rights
The person registering the film with the Festival, whether they are the producer, director, protagonist or other, guarantees to the Festival that they hold all the rights allowing the film to be screened as part of the Festival and also allowing compliance with the provisions of Article 11 hereof.
They also guarantee the Festival that no legal action will be taken against the Festival by any third party claiming to have rights under the Intellectual Property Code, and that they will bear any financial consequences of such proceedings and actions.
ARTICLE 16 – Image rights
During the Festival, all videos and images were taken with the consent and ‘tacit’ expression of will of the persons present during the event or organised evening. Any unauthorised use or distribution is prohibited. All videos, messages and electronic images are subject to alteration. The organising committee declines all responsibility if these videos, photos or images have been altered, distorted or falsified.
ARTICLE 17 – Commitment
The registration of one or more films implies full and complete acceptance of all the articles and conditions set out in these rules.
