Summary
This film screening and discussion is around two films that address the issues of disability and mental health. The film Mon Frère Sotos brings together the Nef family and their brother Arsène, who has Sotos syndrome. The film Cold features Cory Richards, an American mountaineer who, in his latest book published by Paulsen-Guérin, discusses his bipolar disorder.
Film ‘Mon frère Sotos’
In the Nef family, the parents sense that their youngest son, Arsène, is different. He suffers from an extremely rare genetic mutation known as Sotos syndrome. The condition won’t prevent him from learning, but it limits his physical and academic activities. His sister and two older brothers – including Tanguy Nef, a member of the Swiss ski team – don’t give up. Forgetting his difference and driven by unwavering brotherly solidarity, they take Arsène to the Pyrenees for his first ski tour.
Film ‘Cold’

In February 2011, Cory Richards, Simone Moro, and Denis Urubko became the first people to climb an 8,000-meter peak in Pakistan during winter. This near-survival experience left Cory deeply distressed.
In his recent book, Ice Burns, published by Guérin-Paulsen, Cory recounts his extreme climbs and discusses his bipolar disorder with profound candor.
Cory will be on stage, together with publisher Charlie Buffet.
